Luanda – The director general of the Okavango Basin Tourism Development Point, Amaro Francisco, said Tuesday in Luanda that in addition to the economic benefits, his and similar projects can also boost integration of the communities both at internal and regional level.
Amaro Francisco was speaking to Angop on the fringes of the ceremony of swearing-in of new assistant directors for the Tourism Development Points of Calandula, in northern Malanje province, Okavango Basin, in southeastern Kuando Kubango, and Cabo Ledo, in Luanda.
Speaking about the Okavango Basin, he said it will cater for the internal needs first, and respond to tourist interests of foreigners, due to its geographic position and proximity with Namibia, one of the 15 countries of the southern region of the continent.
He said the principle of development of the Okavango Basin will focus on sustainable development, that is the economic benefits resulting from there could also generate an interest in the integration of the communities.
Amaro Francisco added that in its first years, the Okavango Basin Development Point will serve the local tourism as most Angolans are eager to know the country, its tourist potential and natural beauty.
He said the Government should put in place basic infrastructures to attract prospective investors to help boost the project.
