Luanda – The minister of Transports, Augusto Tomás, on Saturday announced in the district of Viana, Luanda, that the new airport of the country's capital shall be totally concluded within 26 months.
The first construction phase of the new airport of Luanda shall be concluded by late August 2012, at about 40 kilometres from the city centre, the minister announced at the end of the visit paid to the construction site by the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.
The Chinese firm "CIF Airport Construction" is currently building the terminals, and are also still in a phase of building the concrete pillars, bases for the construction of the control tower and compacting the gravel for the north and south runways.
According to the Transport minister, the works of the control tower, aeronautics administration building, VIP terminal, fire-fighters department, north flights zone and the main terminal building shall be concluded by late August.
He considered the project as very important for the strategy and socio-economic development of the country.
The official informed that the annual goods flow shall be of 600,000 tonnes per year and the apron shall have about 582,000 square metres.
To the official, the works are being carried out on a good rhythm and the deadlines set out shall be met.
