Luanda – The opening of the Nairobi (Kenya)-Luanda (Angola) air route, launched on Tuesday, will serve to boost bilateral co-operation between the two countries, mainly in the field of trade and tourism.
This was said in Luanda by the deputy minister of Territory Administration, Graciano Domingos.
According to the official who represented the government at the inauguration ceremony of the new air route, “the holding of this act is synonymous with the idea that peace in the country is really a fact and the world starts to understand that to invest in Angola is important, because it is a country for the future”.
To the deputy minister, the establishment of air connection between the two cities, as well as the agreement to be signed by the Angolan Air Transport Company (TAAG) and Kenya Airways is a tribute to what the former heads if State Agostinho Neto and Jomo Kenyata, respectively, did in the past.
Domingos Graciano also mentioned the contribution of Kenya to Angola during the liberation struggle against colonialism for the conquest of national independence, with the leaders of that country having done everything to bring together two Angolan liberation movements, namely the MPLA (currently the ruling party) and FNLA, as well as giving moral support to the Angolan people.
In his opinion, having into account that Kenya has been independent for longer, “Angola should take advantage from this and send its cadres to be trained in that country, giving priority to areas like resources management, hotels and tourism, as well as the search for experiences so that the national air services can have the same quality as that of Kenya Airways, in terms of services rendered.
Graciano Domingos also defended that the Kenyan entrepreneurs have the greatest interest in investing in Angola, with highlight to areas like tourism, floriculture and others in which the country has some deficit.
On his turn, Kenya’s minister for his countries communities in southern Africa, Peter G. Munya, said his delegation is extremely satisfied with the inauguration of that air route that links Nairobi and Luanda.
Peter Munya also manifested his country’s interest in co-operating with Angola in areas relating to crude-oil, besides other sectors, considering the importance of that product.
Kenya Airways flies to several destinations in Africa, Europe (London, Paris and Stockholm), Middle-East and Asia.
