Lobito– At least 560 kilometres of railways in Benguela province were rehabilitated and modernised, said Wednesday the general director of the institution, Daniel Quipaxe.
According to the official, who was speaking on the sidelines of the visit of the governor of Kuazulu Natal, Zweli Mkhze, to the rehabilitation works of the CFB, said that it is due to be completed by March 2012.
The rehabilitation and modernization of the CFB, he said, will allow the movement of 20 million tons of cargo and four million passengers per year.
The CFB, said Daniel Quipaxe, when fully operational will create 6,000 jobs in several sectors.
The railway of Benguela was created in 1903 by a joint venture between Portugal, Belgium and England. The project aimed at the flow of ore from countries such as Zambia, DR Congo and Zimbabwe, and other Southern African Development Community States.
