Lobito– Demining National Institute (INAD) has cleared a perimeter of seven thousand kilometres in length and five kilometres width at Lobito District, central Benguela Province, taskforce supervisor José da Silva informed.
José Silva talked to the media during a ceremony in which one 1, 587 explosive devices were detonated, among them antitank mines and ammunitions.
He added that 90 percent of the perimeter where the refinery will be built is free from danger of landmines or other warlike material.
The demining brigade aims at cleaning the remaining perimeter in February, to guarantee security of the population and allow implementation of programmes with an objective of developing the region.
