Luanda – The minister of Urbanisation and Housing, Diekumpuna Sita José, on Monday here considered essential the mobilisation of the Angolan society, public and private sector so as to meet the population’s demands in this field.
Sita José made this appeal whilst speaking at the main event of the World Habitat Day, celebrated at Talatona Conventions Centre, in the Angolan capital, Luanda, in the presence of the Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, and of the UN under-secretary general and executive director for this organisation’s Human Settlements Programme, Anna Tibaijuka.
Meanwhile, the Angolan official referred that the country will count on the support and solidarity of the international community in the implementation of the programme of improving basic social conditions of the population, with main focus to housing.
"United towards building socially harmonious cities, we think that Angola shall receive the solidarity of the international community and, especially of UN-HABITAT and partners for the implementation of our local programme” – said the official.
Sita José considered the implementation of the national agenda of the territory arrangement system and of the government’s strategy for the application of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Changes and of the Kyoto Protocol are the basic premises of development, taking into account the commitments for building sustainable cities.
The government’s programme foresees the construction of one million social residences countrywide, by 2012, apart from other initiatives in this sector.
