Blood donation movement to be implanted in Angola

Luanda - Angola's Health Ministry and partners intend to implement the international blood donation programme dubbed "Club 25", announced on Thursday the incumbent minister, José Van-Dúnem.

Speaking to the press in the light of the World Blood Donor Day (June 14), the Health minister said that the number of donors in Angola might increase, something that will certainly help patients needing transfusion.

"We will work together to make this intention a reality in Angola, making capable youths adhere to the movement in different provinces of the country", the official said, having added that these donors are safer and can become reserves of national blood bank reserves.

The minister said that Angola needs more quality blood, since the situation that is related to high-number of road accidents recorded in the country on a daily basis, having added that most maternal mortality occurring in health institutions and others are linked to blood shortage, which is a great concern.

The "Club 25" is a programme in which young members assume the commitment to donate blood voluntarily, in order to replace the progressive donation by family members and friends, and eliminate the remunerated blood donation system.

To commemorate the date, a march dubbed "March of thanking blood donors" will be held on Sunday in the country's capital, Luanda.
