Sumbe
Lecture marks celebration of former combatants in Kwanza Sul

Sumbe - A lecture entitled "Former fighter and homeland veteran toward building a free, fair, democratic, peace and social progress" society, tops the celebration activities of the National Former Combatants Day on January 15, held Tuesday in Sumbe, coastal Kwanza Sul province.
 

The lecture was run by Augusto Travassos, official of  the Culture Department, who defended an increase in actions of solidarity with the class, taking into account the leading role they played during the struggle for liberation and national independence.


Addressing the ceremony, the provincial director of the sector, Eduardo Inglês, said the Angolan State, in recognition of the sense of patriotism and national solidarity, assumes as duty and honour to ensure condition for all who have taken part in Struggle and for liberation and national independence.


The institutionalisation of the date, January 15, followed the signing of the Alvor Agreement between the Portuguese government and the three main liberation movements of Angola:  MPLA, FNLA and UNITA in 1975.
