Huambo
Population urged to back peace, political stability ideals

Huambo - The governor of central Huambo province, Fernando Faustino Muteka, urged the local population to defend the ideals of peace, harmony, political and social stability.

 

The official called for engagement with wisdom, creative and innovative spirit in the achievement of the new and successive victories, in addition to those already achieved.

 

The appeal is contained in a message of encouragement on the 100 years since the the capital of the province (Huambo) reached category of the city, on 21 September, under the slogan "Huambo city and life, 100 years for economic and social development ".

 

According to him, the people should provide all their wisdom and creative spirit for the wellbeing of the provincial capital.

 

The letter, which was also delivered to Angop,  reads that the celebrations of 100 years of Huambo city happen at a time of particular importance in the history of the Republic of Angola.

 

The source alluded  the recent holding of  the general elections on 31 August, whose "organization and results have marked the most beautiful pages of history. "

 

Huambo community was raised to the category of city in 1912 by the then governor general of Angola's overseas  province, José Mendes Ribeiro Norton de Matos.
