Official highlights emotional impact on victims of domestic violence

Luanda – Angolan minister of Assistance and Social Welfare, João Baptista Kussumua, said Tuesday in Luanda that domestic violence involves multiple health risks of the victims, both physically and psychologically.

The Cabinet minister said this during the opening ceremony of the First Conference on Women and Domestic Violence, in representation of the vice-president, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

According to the minister Kussumua, the emotional impact that generates this situation has been an unbalancing factor for mental health, either for the victim or the people around.

"We are facing a complex problem, in its beginning and development, causing serious consequences of physical, psychological nature and social relationship of people affected and their family and community," he noted.

According to him, the issue of violence against women at home is a multidimensional phenomenon which requires joint efforts involving all sectors.
