DR Congo claims to host 100,000 Angolan refugees

Luanda – The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) currently controls approximately 100,000 Angolan refugees, said Monday in Luanda the Congolese minister of Social Affairs, Humanitarian Action and National Solidarity, Ferdinand Kalumbi.

 

Speaking to Angop, on the sidelines of the 5th tripartite meeting, gathering Angola, DR Congo and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the official mentioned some 43,000 citizens as having expressed the desire to return voluntarily to the country, for confirmation operation.

 

Angola, DR Congo (brother countries) under the support of the international community represented by the UNHCR are implementing strategies that will enable repatriation of all refugees who want to return to the country, said the minister.

 

The participants at the two-day meeting are making arrangements for voluntary and successful repatriation of national citizens.
