Dundo – The bishop of Dundo Diocese, José Manuel Imbamba, has recently been appointed as the first metropolitan archbishop of Saurimo, reads a note from the Nuncio’s Office in Angola, received by ANGOP in Lunda Norte Province.
According to the document, Pope Benedict XVI also appointed Luís Maria Pérez de Onraita Aguirre, current bishop of Malanje, to be the first metropolitan archbishop of Malanje.
These appointments resulted in the creation by the Pontiff of two ecclesiastic provinces, dubbed “Archiepiscopal Metropolitan Sees”, namely that of Malanje, which groups the diocese of Uige, Ndalatando (Kwanza Norte Province) and Malanje, and the second one is
Saurimo, which is made up by the dioceses of Dundo (Lunda Norte Province), Luena (Moxico) and Saurimo (Lunda Sul).
A Metropolitan is an archbishop of a head-archdiocese of an ecclesiastic province, which is formed by several dioceses.
