Ondjiva - Almost two acres along the 100 kms Xangongo/Ondjiva water conduct were cleared recently by the demining brigade of the angolan armed forces (FAA) in southern Cunene province, the brigade commander told Angop today.
According to lietenant-colonel Jorge António, several devices were removed during the demining operation started in August, including assorted projectiles, hand grenades, ammunitions, fuses anti-personnel and anti-tank landmines.
He termed positive the work of the sappers for accompliding their mission with efficiency and accuracy, with the existance of the necessary technical and human conditions.
He added that another group has cleared 1,5 acres along the roadway Kafima/Caiundo, in Kuanhama municipality, having removed several explosives.
The tender for the construction of the new Xangongo/Ondjiva water conduct was launched in November 2008 at an estimate cost of 220 million usdollars, to improve drinkable water supply in the region from Cunene river in Xangongo.
