Luanda – The Angolan Government has disbursed Usd 8.0 million to assist landmine disabled people for the period 2010-2011, reads a paper distributed to Angop today by the National Inter-sectorial Commission for Demining and Humanitarian Assistance (CNIDAH).
According to the paper 77 per cent of angolan landmine disableds are aged 15-44 years of whom 68 per cent are males crippled while working as drivers or serving as soldiers.
The document refers the European Union, The United States, Japan, Germany, Canada, United Kingdom, Norway, Italy and the United Nations as the main donors, in addition to the angolan government which is the largest funder.
The paper states that the demining process in Angola is marked by two distinct periods, the first from 1995 to 2002 and the 2nd from 2002 up to now, with positive balance nationwide.
With the emergence of CNIDAH, the national anti-landmines sector, particularly the demining operations sector, attracted several partners like the demining brigades of the angolan armed forces, international NGOs and the United Nations.
