One year since Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Angola

Luanda - The country records one year since Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Angola, which took place on 20 March.   


The Pope’s visit to Angola happened from 20 to 23 March 2009, on his arrival at 12.40 pm, at Luanda’s 04 de Fevereiro International Airport, the Pontiff was received by President José Eduardo dos Santos and his wife, Ana Paula dos Santos.


On a message delivered at the airport, the Pope appealed to the Angolan people to build a society based on mercy and fraternity.


Angola was the second African country after Cameroon to receive Pope Benedict XVI, after his election on 19 April 2005.
