Luanda Government pledges houses for violence victims

Luanda – The deputy governor of Luanda province, Juvelina Imperial, said Thursday here that the Government’s house construction programme will also cater for the victims of domestic violence.

The official was speaking to journalists on the fringes of the International Conference closing the first phase of the “Challenging Silence” campaign under the Women Journalists Forum on Gender Equality.

Juvelina Imperial said the process that will require the approval of concerned law, is in progress.

She also stated that the Government intends to find solutions to domestic violence, mainly the women that lose their homes.

The official also stated that the Government of Luanda has been engaged in awareness, education and counselling campaigns and talks, counting on support from the Provincial Department of the Ministry of Family, in line with the central Government’s policy.

On the other hand, Jevelina Imperial stressed that the approval of the law against domestic violence is also a Government’s priority.

The event was attended by Government officials, women journalists, both local and foreigners.
