Over 10,000 people made homeless by floods

Ondjiva,  - A total of 10,879 people have been made homeless and lost their properties and 5,805 children are risking to loose the school year as a result of the floods in Cuvelai, southern Cunene province, Angop learned today.

 

The head of the provincial commission of civil protection, Joaquim Domingos, stated that  several farms were destroyed in Cuvelai, Evale and Kwanhama, adding that the commission is taking emergency steps to organize food and health assistance for the flood victims.

 

This is the 3rd consecutive year of flooding of river Cunene. In 2009, 20 people died, 106  schools were destroyed and 22,000 people were made homeless by the floods.
