Luanda
Angolan women lack interest in the art of playing drum

Luanda – The leader of the percussion group, Celamar, Margarida Nkai, said Wednesday in Luanda, that Angolan women have been showing little interest in playing drums.

Speaking to Angop about “Women in culture”, Margarida Nkai, said this is due to the fact that some people think that the art of playing drums is only for people of low income.

To the artist, active participation of people in this art will be a great contribute to culture, thus elevating the country in the continent.

Celamar percussion group is made up of twelve members, all female, that besides playing drum, also use other African instruments such as marimba.
