Luanda – The "strange" creature that caused traffic chaos for hours at Hoji Ya Henda street, in Luanda, on Tuesday, has been identified as a galago, pertaining to the galagonidae family, inhabiting the forests of some Angolan provinces like Moxico, Kwanza Norte, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul.
The clarification came from biologist Carmén Santos, from the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Sciences of the State-run Agostinho Neto University.
According to the specialist, nocturnal galagos have an ecological capacity to remain active during the night and sleep the whole day.
As to its appearance in Luanda city, the specialist said she fears someone might have brought it home for any particular reason before losing control of it, being an easy domesticating mammal.
The animal was captured by a fire service team after hours of hunt. It will be kept in a Natural Museum quarantine cage for 15 days, before being vaccinated against rabies.
Veterinary doctor Laura Beba Manuel said the mammal is calm, behaving in its normal way.
