Luanda - An inter-agencies emergency programme is being carried out by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) that aims to assist Angolan nationals coming from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo, Angop learnt on Thursday.
Speaking to Angop, the UNHCR representative in Angola, Bohdan Nahajlo, said that the plan includes supply of necessary goods and tents.
Based on official reports, he told that 42,000 Angolans were repatriated from DRC adding that most of them entered through Zaire province where was built a sheltering camp called Mother Theresa.
The UN diplomat said that there was made the first estimative in the province of Zaire by a team composed of many agencies and a delegation from the Ministry of Social Welfare.
Among the difficulties found in the camp include lack of kitchen utensils, plastic bags and medical assistance.
He said that in order to solve the problems the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees will send about 2,250 tents come from Durban, South Africa, to the region.
Created in 1951 UNHCR is tasked with guaranteeing and protecting internationally refugees and find permanent solutions.
Since its creation it helped about 30 million refugees to start their lives.
