Govt thanks support to refugees and displaced people

Luanda - The Angolan government on Friday expressed his gratitude for all the unconditional and disinterested support given to the national citizens who lived as refugees in other countries, due to the internal instability caused by the armed conflict that swept Angola, ANGOP has learnt.

This stand was expressed by the minister of Social Reintegration, João Baptista Kussumua, who represented the Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the special summit of the African Union on Refugees and Displaced People, held on Thursday and Friday, in Kampala, Uganda.

In his speech, the minister reminded that Angola also provided assistance to other countries, mainly the neighbouring ones.

He also said that the various armed conflicts that hit Angola for three decades forced about five million people to be displaced, among them four million internally and others abroad.

With the peace process, he said, it was possible the return of that people to their areas of origin and the process of reconstruction of their lives and social reintegration.
