Luanda – At least 2,250 tents and other non eatable goods will be supplied by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), with the purpose of helping to alleviate the situation of Angolans who came from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to a press release from that international institution, delivered Tuesday to ANGOP, the supplies which disembarked in Angola since last Saturday come from the UNHCR’s regional stockpile, in Durban, South Africa, as result of a request made by the Angolan
government and northern Zaire Province.
In Zaire Province are gathered most of the Angolans who came from DRC.
According to a UNHCR’s note, besides the tents which are expected to benefit about 50,000 Angolans, the donation comprises also 5,000 sleeping mats, 4,000 blankets as well as a pre-fabricated warehouse that will be used to deposit goods to be send to Zaire Province.
The emergency products, transported by trucks of the Ministry Welfare and Social Reintegration (MINARS), will be sent to the plight areas in the provinces of Zaire and Uíge.
Regarding the arrival of the supplies, an initiative supported by South African government, the UNHCR’s representative, Bohdan Nahajlo, reiterated that he intends to support the Angolan state to overcome this situation of humanitarian emergency.
