Luanda – Angolan psychologist, Carlinhos Zassala, Wednesday in Luanda urged the need for a stricter enforcement of the law against public smoking.

Speaking to Angop in reaction of to the approval of the law against public smoking, Carlinhos Zassala said the purposes of the Government will not be attained concerning the use of tobacco in public, unless a stricter control is exerted by concerned organs.

He said public smoking tends to affect more the passive smokers than tobacco users themselves.

"Tobacco is not like the other drugs such as alcoholic drinks that only affect users, as it causes serious diseases to everyone, both active and passive smokers who end up suffering the consequences of the use of tobacco”, he stressed.

According to him, the use of tobacco in public places forces officials to abandon their workplaces.

"We have people who are very irresponsible and do not consider others. The attitude of such people has been causing losses at workplaces”, he said.

The Government law states that smokers shall be allowed to use tobacco at places where they are on their own in order not to harm the health of others.

The law also makes provisions for restaurants and alike services to create appropriate places for smokers, since the smoke produced there does not spread out into non-smoker areas.

The compliance of the measure will be controlled by inspectors and police officers.
