Government calls on families to promote breastfeeding

Luanda - The Angolan Government and its partners called on Thursday all national families to promote the exclusive breastfeeding until six months old at least for a better nutrition and health of children, Angop has learnt.

Both entities launched the call through a press note delivered by Unicef, in allusion of the 20th anniversary of the world week of breast feeding.

The document adds that thousands of children continue dieing due to preventive illnesses, such as acute malnutrition, caused by the premature breast feeding and lack of adjusted complementary feeding.

The Angolan Government with the support of the Unicef has been promoting the breastfeeding and other essential practices of survival to guarantee children and families well-being, meant to reduce infantile mortality, says the document.

The world week of breast feeding is commemorated on August 07 and this year it is taking place under the motto Comprehension of the past - Planning the future: Celebrate 10 years of WHO/Unicef global strategy for children and babies breast feeding".
