65th WHO Assembly Monday in Geneva

Geneva– The 65th General Assembly of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Angola is attending with a delegation headed by the Health minister, José Van-Dúnem, opened Monday in Geneva, Switzerland, with the theme “Ageing and Health: good health adds life to years,” Angop learned.


 
The meeting is discussing a number of public health issues such as universal health coverage, Millennium Development Goals, Non-communicable diseases, Mental disorders, Nutrition and Adolescent pregnancy.

 

Ahead of the Assembly, the Angolan delegation attended the 22nd Meeting of the Executive Council of the Roll Back Malaria programme, that included a special ministerial session and discussed such matters as general vision of the countries’ current funding strategies to sustain the control of malaria.

 

 
The 64th General Assembly of the World Health Organisation of 2011 adopted as main areas of activity Institutions and health system, Health and development, Health security and Health trend and mobilisation for better health.

 

The Angolan delegation to the meeting includes the country’s permanent representative to the United Nations and International Organisations, ambassador Apolinário Correia, and high ranking officials of the Health Ministry.
