Luanda
Polio situation considered stable countrywide

Luanda - The head of the National Immunisation Section of the Public Health Department, Alda de Sousa, on Tuesday in Luanda considered as stable the poliomyelitis situation in Angola.

Speaking to ANGOP, the official revealed that for the past six months or more the country has not recorded a single polio case.

Alda de Sousa said that in 2011five cases were recorded, against the 33 cases of 2010.

She explained that the decrease in polio cases is due to the intensive activities held last year, with several preventive campaigns taking place.

She also informed that for this year it has been created an emergency programme that covers four areas, one of which is the vaccination campaign.
