US ambassador briefed on poliomyelitis eradication

Luanda - The US ambassador to Angola, Christopher McMullen, visited on Wednesday WHO office in the country, to learn about the eradication of polio virus transmission here, Angop has learnt.


The meeting, which is part of the efforts for the implementation of the mentioned programme in Angola, was attended by representatives of USAID and UNICEF, among other officials linked to the programme aimed to fight poliomyelitis.


WHO representative to Angola, Rui Vaz highlighted the significant reduction of the cases of poliomyelitis in Angola from 33 to 5 cases between 2010 and 2011.


The Ambassador praised the efforts made by the Angolan government, WHO and UNICEF to solve the public health problems and highlighted that his country is ready to continue contributing to the eradication of polio transmission and betterment of health condition of the Angolan population.
