Angola, Sub-Saharan Africa told to reduce HIV cases

Luanda - The Angolan Health vice minister, Evelize Frestas, defended  on Wednesday in Luanda the need for Angola and Sub-Saharan countries  to continue making effort to reduce the cases of HIV/AIDS infections, and thus slow down the death rate caused by this pandemic disease.

Evelize Frestas said so during a workshop on the initiative to eliminate the new HIV infections in children.

According to her, the vision by the Health Ministry aims to achieve zero new infections, combat discrimination and prevent deaths caused by this disease, thus ensuring the control and reduction of the infection within several communities.

The official defended the need of focusing on prevention of early pregnancies, through greater access of teenagers to information and education campaign, such as the access to the services linked to family planning, HIV/AIDS voluntary testing and counselling.

However, the minister called for the need of reviewing and updating the strategy to prevent the disease countrywide.

According to Evelize Frestas, this goal requires a deep involvement of the National Health Service throughout the country, reason why all provincial health departments are committed to holding workshops.

The vice minister stated that the strategic plan to combat AIDS fits all interventions in this area, whose the main challenge of the workshop is to draft the national plan for elimination of the new HIV infections in children by 2015.
