Luanda – The Angolan health authorities recorded until December last year 148 cases of leprosy, with a prevalence rate of 0.57 per 10.000 inhabitants, ANGOP has learnt.

  
The World Health Organization (WHO) considers that ideal rate indicating elimination of the disease is one patient per 10.000 inhabitants.

Angola has managed to achieve this goal in 13 out of 18 provinces.

Meanwhile, the world is celebrating this Sunday the World Leprosy Day, under the motto “Advocating in favour of Human Rights”.

The World Leprosy Day (29 January) is mainly celebrated in those countries in which it is still recorded over 1000 cases of leprosy per year.

 
Although there is cure for this disease, it is better dealt with when an early diagnosis of the disease is made.
