Specialist advises pregnant women to abstain from alcohol

Benguela – The specialist of Benguela General Hospital (HGB) maternity, Augusta Borges, urged Wednesday in this city pregnant women to abstain from excessive use of alcohol for better protection of babies during pregnancy.

Augusta Borges spoke at the course happening as part of second technical scientific meeting of the Katyavala Bwila Medicine Faculty, happening from 25 to 28 October.

According to specialists, there is a tendency for pregnant women to eat foods with a lot of
salt, as well as drink alcohol, so they should be cautious, in order to avoid losing the baby, in
the first months.

In this case, she said a pre-conception evaluation should be a concern for all pregnant women, because only this way can  maternal and infant mortality rates be reduced.

The course counts on the presence of over 90 students from the Faculty of Medicine.
