Paediatric hospital to have haemoglobin "S" screening services

 

Luanda - A neo-natal screening project, aimed for the identification of children with haemoglobin “S” at birth with subsequent confirmation, will be operational in the paediatric hospital until the first half of 2012.

 

 

 

This was said to ANGOP by the paediatrician Brígida Santos, on the fringes of the 1st Congress of Health Sciences under the theme “Psychopathological aspects of sickle cell anaemia”.

 

 

 

According to her, the neo natal screening will enable prematurely the kind of haemoglobin during the pregnancy.

 

 

 

The expert said that the support centre of anaemic patient in the David Bernardino Hospital receives 100 children with sickle cell anaemia per a day.

 

 

 

She said that the consultations and treatment of assisted children is divided into three phases, namely the crisis, segment and nutrition.
