Luanda - The World Health Organisation (WHO) Africa Regional Director, Angolan Luís Gomes Sambo, Wednesday in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, urged for the need to really assess the level of emergency and dissemination of multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and X-drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB), that keeps posing serious hindrances to the African people's health.
Luís Gomes Sambo said that between January 2007 and December 2009, 33 member States recorded 22,032 multi resistant cases, being eight others have reported 1,501 ultra-resistance.
According to WHO official, the countries face challenges in fighting against this probleme due to insufficient levels of success in the treatment.
Luís Sambo mentioned the generalised lack of measures for control of infection in the communities and health units, policies, handbooks and outdated details and laboratory services, without necessary guarantee of quality.
Still the insufficiency of drug resistant TB, the poor care standards, inadequate availability of medicines of the second line, long lasting treatment, high cost of treatment, are also among the problems, said the World Health Organisation (WHO) Africa Regional Director.
