Family Ministry trains over 500 traditional midwives

Ndalatando – At least 502 traditional midwives from northern Kwanza Norte province were trained in aid to pregnant women and home delivery, under a programme run by the provincial department of the Ministry of Family and Women Promotion together with
the Health Ministry.


 
The programme was intended to reduce maternal-infant mortality in the communities.


 
Speaking to Angop, the provincial director of the Ministry of Family and Women Promotion, Teresa da Costa, said the programme enabled to train 42 traditional midwives from the district  of Cazengo, 116 from Ambaca, 113 from Golungo-Alto, 60 from Ngonguembo, 67 from Bolongongo, 52 from Banga and 52 from Kiculungo.


 
The official stated the programme also aimed at equipping traditional midwives in the region with new techniques helping safe deliveries to mothers and children.


 
The programme included the distribution of 1,740 kits of disposable material, sterilisation instruments and gloves.
