Malabo – The president of Equatorial Guinea, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Monday, in Malabo, said that the strengthening of scientific research on health can help to improve health situation Africa.
Nguema Mbasogo, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 60th Session of the World Health Organisation for Africa, defended the creation of an award to boost scientific research, disagreeing with those personalities who want to banish it.
"It is necessary a great research effort to improve our intervention in fighting against sicknesses that devastate our people on the continent", mentioned the Statesman.
According to the president of the Central African country of Equatorial Guinea, there is a huge deficit on the availability of technology in Africa, that is why he thinks that the time has arrived the to make more efforts for its increment, toward the development of Africa continent.
The Nguema Mbasogo praised WHO efforts, mainly of the regional committee, saying the chosen item about maternal death to be discussed in the meeting is very important, because mothers are the backbones of the African families.
The Statesman spoke also about sanitation situation in Equatorial Guinea, mentioning that it is not so different from the other countries of the continent, indicating HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis as the mail concerns of the country, affecting more women and children.
At last, he praised WHO collaboration, mainly the aid that the regional committee has been giving to his country, motivating him to donate USD 500,000 to be used for four years on reinforcing the programmes, aiming to attain health for everybody by the year of 2020.
