Malabo – The 60th session of the World Health Organisation director for Africa of the World Health Organisation (WHO/AFRO) continues in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, with the presentation by the regional director, Luís Gomes Sambo, of the report on the activity carried out in the 2008-2009 period.
The six-chapter report provides a framework of the reference and outlines goals, describes the context of execution of the 2008-2009 Budget/Programme, and presents the priorities for the mentioned period, including the planning of concerned resources.
The document that will be discussed and analysed by the participants, also mentions the work done at regional and national levels, including the priorities for each of the 13 strategic goals, with a stress to the implementation of pertinent resolutions from the regional committee.
The report also contains a summery of the challenges, obstacle and teachings gathered during the referred biennium, conclusion and annexes, including a definition of the strategic objectives and allocation of the approved Budget/ Programme.
According to the report, the WHO-Africa have been carried out within the framework of the 11th general programme for the 2006-2015 period of the 2008-2013 mean-term strategic plan.
The meeting being attended by more than 500 participants is to analyse such matters as "Recurrent epidemics in Africa region, preparation and response to emergency situations”, “Current state of routine vaccination and eradication of polio in Africa””, “reinforcement of the health systems”, “Uterus cancer in Africa”, “Multi-resistant and ultra-resistant tuberculosis” and “Reduction of use of alcohol”.
The programme includes a round table on "Universal access to obstetrics and neo-natal care”.
