Huambo – The health authorities of central province of Huambo reported a decline of 6.7 percent in the deaths from measles in the first half of this year, during which were registered 82 cases of the disease in children under five years of age.
This reduction, according to the chief of public health department and epidemic control, Salomão Ernesto is due to the awareness campaigns promoted by health authorities in order for mothers to take their children below five years to vaccination campaigns.
He also remembered that from January to June 2009 were reported 66 deaths against four of this year.
The official said also that in the first six months of 2009 health authorities registered 1,433 cases of measles figure that compared to this year data represents a decline of 1,351 people infected by the disease.
