Over 500 people undergo HIV/AIDS test

Andulo – At least 600 people conducted HIV/AIDS test in 2009, in Andulo district, about 130 kilometres north off Kuito, Bié province, according to the chief of the health department in the district, Francisco Chiquete.

He said that from those tested, at least 15 have obtained a positive result, and they are already benefiting from medical treatment with antiretroviral drugs, as well as raising awareness on the care of the disease, in order to prevent the transmission.

Francisco Chiquete stressed that in the same period, over 1,500 people have benefited from counselling on the disease.

He said that the health sector of the municipality is fighting against HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) with the support from the US Non-Governmental Organisation (Care International), churches and society in general.
