Lisbon - The Angolan health authorities registered in the year 2009 that at least 254,471 citizens are HIV/Aids positive, 149.386 of whom are women.

The information was disclosed by the director of the National Institute for the Fight against HIV/Aids, Dulcelina Serrão, while talking about the national policy used to fight the decease, at the 3rd Congress of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP), which takes place in Lisbon until this Friday.

According to Dulcelina Serrão, the age group most affected is from 15-49 years old, with 209. 667 people living with HIV.

Out of that number of infected people, 20, 209 are women, 29, 238 were children, 23, 281orphans, having been equally recorded 19, 114 deaths.

According to the public health physician, although bordering two countries that have high HIV prevalence (Namibia, Zambia and 20 percent-17 percent), Angola has experienced a relatively limited epidemic.
