Over 30 cholera cases recorded in Ganda district

Ganda - A total of 31 cases of cholera, in which one resulted in death, were registered by the local health sector, from October to December 2009 in the district of Ganda, 220 kilometres south-east of Benguela city.

According to the head of the department of public health and control to endemic diseases in Ganda, Daniel Chapo, the villages and surrounding wards of the district, namely Sisal Lundungo, Indongo, Lombas and Maias, are the most affected by the outbreak.

He pointed out the lack of basic sanitation in wards and villages as the causes of the outbreak, having assured that the sector is implementing measures to contain and prevent the disease.

To Daniel Chapo, in order to curb the disease, a health team has been set up in order to carry out a series of awareness workshops in each commune, ward and village on the primary health cares.
