Luanda – The Health minister, José Van-Dúnem, is since Thursday in northeastern Lunda Norte province, where he is expected to work with the local government in the search for solutions to the problems affecting the sector in the region.
Speaking to Angop at Luanda airport, the minister said the region is faced with weaknesses in the health sector which needs a response to existing problems of human resources, logistics and public health programmes.
He said as well he will visit the works in the Dundo hospital and medical centres being built on the outskirts of the capital city, seeking to help the provincial institution to respond to the demand for its services.
José Van-Dúnem said he will negotiate with the local Government authorities the allocation of sites for the construction of various health centres with a view to lessening the pressure from patients that seek health services.
However, he stated that the health situation in the region has recorded some improvement, alike almost everywhere in the country.
According to him, malaria has ceased to be the main cause of death in Angola, thanks to the effort being made by the Government.
He said as well that besides malaria, the Health Ministry is also seeking to control the respiratory infections, diarrhoea, Hiv/Aids and tuberculosis in Lunda Norte.
During the tree days of stay in the region, the minister and his team will meet with local traditional midwives in order to provide them with the assistance their need for a better performance of their duties.
