Luanda – The US ambassador to Angola, Dan Mozena, said Thursday in Luanda, that his country’s administration is seeking to have the relations between the two countries strengthened.
The diplomat said so during a press conference meant for a presentation on the electoral process in his country that led to the election of Barack Obama as president.
Dan Mozena said the strengthening of relations with Angola and the role the US can play in it have been much discussed in Washington.
For this reason, he said he believes that the new administration of his country, led by elect-president, Barack Obama, will continue with the work with a view to improving the relations with Angola, including US investments in sectors other than oil and gas.
The diplomat also admitted that Angola has one of Africa’s biggest and more professional armies and can for that reason play an important part in the pacification of the continent.
He also mentioned that in Angola his country has one of the biggest investments in oil and gas in Africa which, according to him, is a reason for strengthened relationship.
Dan Mozena expressed his satisfaction at noting the interest people show for the electoral process in his country, adding that studies are underway for its improvement.
According to him, elect-president, Barack Obama, will be sworn in on January 20 next year, after he is through with selecting the members for his administration.
To him, Barack Obama will direct his utmost effort towards the progress of the United States of America, as the country is wanted to be healthy, safe and democratic.
Dan Mozena said that one of the main challenges to the new president has to do with the continuation of the policies leading to the deepening of relations with Africa.
