Brazilian Defence minister highlights development of Angola

Luanda -The State minister for Defence of Brazil, Celso Luis Nunes Amorim, stressed Monday, in Luanda, the importance of the progress made by the Republic of Angola in the past 11 years of peace.

 

"This progress for us (Brazilians) galvanize us enough, joy of seeing a brother people with whom we maintain close relations to progress so quickly," said the Brazilian minister while speaking at the opening session of official talks between Angola and Brazil, in the field of Defence and Armed Forces.

 

After all, said the Brazilian official, the route of development is long and complex and Brazil can help Angola in various aspects agreed upon by the Angolan authorities.

 

"It is this vision that we have for the development of cooperation in various areas, primarily defense," stated Celso Amorim, considering this area as "an indispensable pillar of the strategic partnership between the States."

 

For Celso Amorim, the military industry is also an "important basis" because it offers autonomous capacity to protect the interests of each country and helps to promote jobs and growth.

 

In official talks between both delegations headed by the Minister of Defence of Angola, Cândido Van-Dúnem, and his Brazilian counterpart, Celso Amorim, the parties assess the state of bilateral cooperation, with emphasis on the development of industry and military training of Angolan military.

 

Even today, Celso Amorim who is accompanied by general officers of the branches of the Army, Navy and Air Force, and a large number of businessmen linked to the Brazilian military industry, will visit the Naval Base of Luanda, belonging to the Angolan Navy.

 

Angola and Brazil maintain friendly and cooperation relations in various fields since 1975, when the government of the South American country has recognized the independence of Angola from the Portuguese colonial yoke.
