Ruling party at International Socialist meeting in Lisbon

Lisbon – A delegation of the Angolan ruling MPLA party, headed by its secretary general, Julião Mateus Paulo “Dino Matross”, arrived Saturday in Lisbon (Portugal) to attend a meeting of the International Socialist (IS) Council from February 3-5.

 

The meeting of the IS Council will discuss the “Global economy: our vision of growth, job and sustainable development”, with the participation of 250 representatives of 90 delegations of political parties and organisations from around the world.

 

Among the prominent figures expected at the meeting, stress goes to the ex-prime minister of  Greece, George Papandreou, the IS secretary general, Chilean Luís Ayala, the president of Tunisia’s Constituting Assembly, Mustapha Ben Jaffar, the ex-presidential candidate in France, Ségolène Royale, and the former vice president of the Spanish Government, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba.

 

Besides the European crisis, the IS Council will also discuss the “sustainable development, the emerging economies and democratisation of the Arab countries.

 

It will also hold emergence meetings to analyse the situation in Syria and Mali.

 

Ahead of the Council, a session of the “Presidium”, the IS’s most relevant executive and political organ, will be held, during which presidents and vice presidents of socialist parties gather to concert views.

 

The meeting that will be held on the premises of the headquarters of the Portuguese Socialist Party, will be presided over by the ex-prime minister of Greece, George Papandreou, who was re-elected IS president in 2012.
