Luanda – Angola's Navy (MGA), one of the branches of the Armed Forces of Angola (FAA) will celebrate Tuesday, 10 July, its 36 years of existence.
The Navy was founded in 1976 during the visit of the first president and founder of the Angolan Nation, António Agostinho Neto, to naval base of Luanda.
The fact coincided with the end of the training period of the first members of the branch, shortly after the country won Independence.
In 36 years, great changes have occurred in the branch, although still insufficient the ships at their available to deal with an efficient patrolling of territorial waters including the Exclusive Economic Zone (ZEE), said the Navy commander, admiral Augusto da Silva Cunha "Gugu".
According to him, his staff will keep inviolable borders river before, during and after the general elections, scheduled for 31 August
In the context of modernisation of FAA, the Angolan Navy is engaged in training of its personnel to better handle any modern equipment of military art, said admiral Augusto da Cunha Silva “Gugú”.
In his message addressed to the Navy staff on the occasion of the date, the chief of staff of the Angolan Armed Forces, general Geraldo Sachipengo Nunda recalls that this military branch has accomplished difficult missions, by contributing to the defence and preservation of national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
