Matala - The ambassador of Angola to Canada, Agostinho Tavares, Thursday, said that the rehabilitation and modernization of Matala Hydroelectric Dam will bring socio-economic development of the southern region of the country, given its structural potential.
Speaking to reporters at the end of his visit to the hydroelectric dam to see the progress of works carried out by a Canadian contractor "SNC-Lavalin," Agostinho Tavares said that it was an important project for the development of the region's economy.
"I am particularly impressed with the greatness of this work, had no idea what it was like the Matala hydropower and I must say that this is a project of extreme importance to Huila, and not only because this completely refurbished dam will serve other provinces such as Namibe and Cunene, "he said.
Agostinho Tavares said it was a project that will generate power for the development of "big" manufacturing industries and will feed the neighbouring provinces, as well as allow the advancement of the agricultural sector, given the size of Matala municipality.
