Progressive international assertion of Portuguese language stressed

Luanda - The consolidation of Portuguese language at international level has contributed to its progressive assertion on the world stage, said Tuesday the State secretary for Foreign Affairs, Rui Mangueira.

The Foreign Affairs official said so at the opening of the International Colloquium on "The Portuguese Language at International Organisations", running until July 5.

Rui Mangueira added that the Portuguese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, used as official in nine countries, integrated into geopolitical and cultural molds with multiple characters.

He said that these countries have taken an active part in various international fora, in humanitarian operations and global peacekeeping missions.

“The Portuguese language is used as a working or document tool in more than dozens of international organisations, both at regional and intercontinental level”, said the official.

Attended the opening ceremony minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, Gilvan Oliveira, Executive director of International Institute of Portuguese Language (IILP), Luís Kandjimbo, representative of Executive Secretary of CPLP and director of cultural action of the organisation, among other guests.
