Luanda
Official presentation of polls candidates considered historic

Luanda - The chairman of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), André da Silva Neto, said Friday, in Luanda, that the official presentation of the candidates to the 2012 general elections is an important historic moment in fulfilment of the electoral processes in Angola.

The official made this statement whilst receiving from the hands of the chief judge of the Constitutional Court, Rui Ferreira, a final list of political parties (political parties and coalitions) cleared to participate in the forthcoming August 31 polls, in an act held at the Courthouse.

He stated that this process will enable Angolans to elect, periodically and regularly, their worthy representatives to the posts of president, vice-president and members of parliament.

At the occasion, André da Silva Neto announced that the act will be followed by another to be carried out by the CNE, embodied in holding the draw of the final list of handed over to this institution, for the purpose of defining the numerical order in the gazette of approved applications.

He noted that in obedience to what is enshrined in the Organic Law on Elections, the draw will be held by the CNE in the next 48 hours (Sunday, July 8), and the final lists will later be published.
