Media urged to publish only official data

Luanda - State and private-owned Media organs should only release official data to ensure reliability and fairness of elections, urged Wednesday the chairman of
the Provincial Electoral Commission (CPE) in Luanda.

Manuel Pereira da Silva said this when presiding over the opening ceremony of an informative meeting with municipal and district administrators, traditional authorities, media professionals, with headquarters in the capital.

According to him, the media organs should avoid conveying messages that trigger hatred and violence in order to contribute to a healthy environment and favourable holding of free, fair, transparent and democratic elections.

The official appealed to journalists to act with fairness and impartiality during the coverage of the electoral process underway.

He said this way will enable the citizens to vote for peace and democracy.

Manuel Pereira stressed that meetings of its kind aim at stimulating the spirit of dialogue and exchange on the role played  by National Electoral Commission and its organs.

Pereira da Silva recalled that on August 31, Angolans will choose the president, vice president and MPs, in a single ballot.
