Angola records crucial moment - police senior officer

Luanda - The second commander-general of National Police chief commissioner Paulo de Almeida said that the country is currently undergoing a "sensitive moment, triggered by political will, in which the people are engaged in demonstration in support and others claiming their rights."


Delivering his speech at the opening of the two-day Broad Consultative Council of Protection Objectives Strategic Command of Police (CPPOE) held Wednesday in Luanda, Paulo de Almeida referred to this period ahead of the general elections, convened for next August 31, 2012.


The Police senior officer said that the staff of the corporation must be prepared to deal with anxieties, and show citizens that the police are ready to manage the situation.


"Our role is not only repressive, but also educational," recalled the commissioner general, in representation of the commander general of the National Police, Ambrosio de Lemos.


He also announced that the corporation will carry out the training of staff of those who are directly or indirectly in charge of  securing the elections.
