Luanda - The president of Angola’s ruling MPLA party, José Eduardo dos Santos, was appointed  Wednesday in Luanda to stand as the head of the list candidates of his organisation for the country’s general elections scheduled for August 31, 2012.

 

The appointment of Eduardo dos Santos happened during the 5th session of MPLA’s  Central Committee.

 

Manuel Vicente has been appointed the second name on the list that includes candidates for the ruling party’s Parliamentary bench.

 

In terms of the Angolan Constitution, the head of the list of the political party or coalition that wins the election shall become the president of the Republic and head of Government. 

 

The same applies to the post of vice president of the Republic that shall be held by the second most voted candidate on the list of the political party or coalition that wins the election.
